Military Service Stripes - WASHINGTON (News Service, August 25, 2008) -- Down with the old, come on with the blue. This made it official; the green military uniform, which has been a feature of service since the mid-1950s, is on the rise.
Instead of the green uniform, there will be a variant of the blue uniform that many soldiers already have. The official announcement of the new "service uniform" or ASU was posted in the notice of all events on 20 August. The Embassy determines the dropout policy and the "transition" strategy for the transition to the new uniform.

"This is the culmination of a transformation effort that began in 2004," Sergeant Major Kenneth O. Preston said of the new ASU. “We had three uniforms in the style of “class A”, all jackets of the same style, only in a different color – the principles of how we wore the equipment were different. We wondered if we could only wear one, which one would it be? And the blue uniform was the most popular of the three."

Similar to the existing blue coat, the new ASU coat will feature a non-washable material and a more "sporty" cut.
Other changes to the uniform include the approval of the Combat Service Insignia to indicate combat service, overseas service insignia approved on the jacket sleeve for both enlisted men and officers, and the wearing of the unit's distinctive insignia on the bluecoat shoulder loops for enlisted men. approval of the paratroopers to wear black jump boots with blue ACS and the decision to switch to a new white shirt with short and long sleeves with epaulettes.
Enlisted soldiers are also allowed to wear both the overseas service stripes and the service stripes on the new ASU blue uniform. Officers and enlisted men in the non-commissioned officer class and above additionally wear gold braid on their trousers to indicate their leadership role.
"It's sort of a right of way when moving from (junior) private to non-commissioned officer," Preston said of the gold braid.

Soldiers are expected to receive full uniforms by July 2014. The two key components of the uniform, the coat and trousers, are expected to cost around $140, with modifications bringing the total to $200. Enlisted soldiers receive an increase in their annual uniform allowance to offset the cost of uniforms. Pawned tags are centered on the outside of the left sleeve, 4 inches from the hem.
